LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE:

What if you had a business and didn’t even know it? It seems like a strange thing to happen, but that was precisely the case for our latest guest on the Inner Edison Podcast with Ed Parcaut.

Before becoming an accidental entrepreneur, Tucker Max was a well-established author. He has written four New York Times Best Sellers and sold over four million copies. He is also one of only four authors, including Malcolm Gladwell, Brene Brown, and Michael Lewis, to have three nonfiction books on the New York Times Best Sellers List at one time.

On our podcast, we discussed his successful business, Scribe Media, and how he fell into the role of an accidental entrepreneur.

How It All Began

It all began at an entrepreneur dinner. He was seated next to a very successful female entrepreneur who asked him how she could write her book without putting in all the work of writing it?

Tucker explains that the question floored him, “And I was like, are you asking me how to write a book without writing it?” He followed up his question with a lecture about hard work until she called him out for it.

“Are you an entrepreneur? I don’t know because a real entrepreneur would help me solve my problem.” It was at that moment that he realized that she was right.

He spent several months interviewing her and writing her book in her words. When it was all done, she asked, “What should I tell my friends? How much do you charge?”

He tried to tell her that this wasn’t a service and that it was just a one-time thing, but she only answered, “All right, well, I’m going to send people to you. You can tell them what you’re going to charge.”

Within two months, he and a business partner had signed over a quarter of a million dollars in revenue for the same service.

A Business Is Born: Scribe Media

In the past six years, Tucker Max, his business partner Zach, and a former client turned CEO, Jevon McCormick, has turned Scribe Media into a self-publishing powerhouse.

Scribe Media now employs 65 full-time employees and over 200 more working part-time or freelance. They have surpassed 50 million in revenue and have helped create over 750 books out in the market.

However, Tucker is the first to say he couldn’t have done it alone. He credits a lot of his success to their CEO, Jevon McCormick. “I mean, we had a great product, you know. We had all the foundational elements you need to grow a great business, but he’s the reason it grew without breaking or shattering.”

For the record, Tucker Max definitely sees himself as an entrepreneur today.

Scribe Wants to Help You Write Your Book: Scribe School

Tucker Max believes that everyone has a book in them. He believes that most people want to write a book, but they don’t the right systems or processes to complete one. So he’s decided to give Scribe’s process away for free. No strings attached!

Through Scribe School, anyone can learn the same process Scribe has used to write over 750 books! He teaches you all phases of publishing a book, from concept to design to publishing.

Why is he doing this? Because he believes that everyone should have the experience of writing a book. It’s the same step-by-step process they have used to create NYT Best Sellers, and it’s all free. All that’s required is to follow the self-guided courses and put in the work.

If you decide it’s too much to handle, you can always use the Scribe service. It’s really that simple.

Do You Have a Story in You?

If you’ve often thought about writing a book, and you know you have a story in you, feel free to try out the self-guided courses on Scribe School. If you’d rather leave it to the pros, you can always use the Scribe service.
