While certain areas of our lives may flourish, we can easily recognize other areas that need attention.
Then there are those nagging areas that we never seem to figure out.
What’s that all about?
It isn’t until we do some soul searching that we recognize that some aspects of our lives are controlled by fear.
On the latest episode of the Inner Edison Podcast with Ed Parcaut, we discussed the notion of fear and how it can hold us back from the life we truly want.
We spoke with Tim S. Marshall, an entrepreneur, author, and keynote speaker who shares his knowledge about business, personal growth, sales, and relationships to organizations, companies, and institutes of higher learning.
He shared the five habits needed to overcome your fears and reach your full potential.
- Awareness
Before you can overcome your fears, you must become aware of them.
Sometimes we can go through patterns in our lives without fully realizing that our fears hold us back from change.
Sometimes awareness is easy, and sometimes it can be buried deep inside.
You may have to wrestle with your feelings and ask yourself some tough questions.
Are there patterns in your life that help you avoid certain situations?
Do you make excuses for things you don’t change? Why is that?
In these questions, you may uncover a fear of failure for achieving a certain goal that’s important to you.
- Have an Open Mind
Once you’ve recognized and become aware of your fears, you must have an open mind to the possibility of conquering them.
You may not believe that you can actually conquer your fears in the beginning, and that’s okay.
The point is to believe that it’s possible to conquer your fears.
As time goes by, you’ll notice that the thought becomes easier to digest. You may even visualize your life without these fears holding you back.
It’s important to play with the idea of what your life may look like if you didn’t have these fears holding you back.
What kind of relationships would you have?
Would conquering your fear change your financial reality?
How might losing your fears open up other opportunities in your life?
- Practice
After you have become aware of your fears and opened your mind to the possibility of conquering your fears, it’s time to put in the work and practice.
Some fears, especially those with you most of your life, require constant repetition.
You have to find ways to face your fears regularly to make your mind more comfortable with the challenge of conquering your fears.
As you practice, you learn to trust and begin to change your beliefs about what’s possible.
- Build Up Your Skill Set
The more your practice, the easier it will become to conquer your fears.
Eventually, you’ll learn to build a skill set of resilience and understanding of the process.
Personal growth starts from the inside out, and as you apply yourself, you’ll grow and produce better habits that align with your new life.
Before long, others will ask how you did it, which leads us to the last habit of overcoming your fears.
- Teach It to Other People
Once you’ve built up a skill set to the point where you’ve become the things you used to dream about, it’s time to teach other people how to achieve it.
Teaching others helps to ingrain the process into your mind and build neural pathways in your brain that make it a lifelong habit.
Once you’ve built a habit, you don’t have to spend so much mental energy thinking about it. It just becomes part of your routine.
Teaching others to achieve the same skill set will only further your belief that it’s not only possible but easy to conquer what was once a fear in your life.
