LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE:

If you had to choose between one excellent sales professional or a group of average sales professionals, which do you think would have the most significant impact over time?

We explored this question and others on the latest episode of the Inner Edison Podcast with Ed Parcaut

We spoke to Stela Roznovan, a Regional Sales Director and the host of The Young Entrepreneur Podcast. She spoke with us about her journey from being a touring concert pianist to learning the ropes of sales and management to her budding career move into entrepreneurship.

If you’re considering making a move into an entirely new field, you won’t want to miss what Stela had to say on the topic of increasing your skill set.

Figure Out the Rules to Play the Game

Making the leap from concert pianist to selling life insurance may sound like a wide gap, but Stela states there is some carryover when it comes to transferable skills. For instance, as a concert pianist, there are many rules you need to learn to be great — the same goes for building a skill set for sales.

When Stela first entered the world of life insurance, she came into the industry with zero experience. She mentions having to learn finance, sales, and understanding the nature of insurance policies. While that can seem scary, she didn’t look at it that way.

Stela approached it from the mindset of learning a game of chess — once you understand how all the individual pieces move, it becomes easier to play.

She advises anyone who is starting in a new industry to follow their curiosity. She explains that if you can dovetail your curiosity with a passion for learning and growing, you’ll succeed no matter what industry you enter.

Crowdsource Your Skillset

Stela explains that it took her some time to figure this out, but she noticed her network would consistently outperform her skillset.

She could work doggedly to become the best at something — have tunnel vision and power through, or she could ask someone with more knowledge and experience how to solve her problem. Once she realized this, it cut her learning curve in half!

She recognizes that salespeople don’t always want to seem vulnerable and ask for help, but she wishes the sales professionals she manages would. It would save them a lot of time and stress.

She now approaches building her skill set by asking herself what problems she currently has and how to solve them. Then she leverages her network to acquire the skill and solve her problem without fumbling her way through it.

The Young Entrepreneur Podcast

Stela states that she started The Young Entrepreneur Podcast over a year ago to expand her network into other industries.

She hoped to ask questions that can tackle some of the problems she is having while also helping other young entrepreneurs find sage-like advice. It’s given her a more comprehensive network of individuals, which she can leverage to solve more significant problems and add more value.

Already in her second season, she’s excited about the path ahead and what’s on the horizon for her as an entrepreneur. She’s also looking into other avenues to turn a profit, such as creating an app and building an e-commerce brand.

Your Network Is an Asset

Stela Roznovan truly believes that your network is an asset. Used wisely, your network can help you solve problems greater than your current skill set to produce outstanding results.

If you’re looking to grow into a new role, leverage your network to acquire new skills, knowledge, and wisdom.
