LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE:

Justin is the founder and CEO of BrEpic.

In Justin Breen’s book, Epic Business, he shares the top thirty insights he learned from the world’s top thirty entrepreneurs. We recently sat down with Justin to learn about the top five things he’s learned about entrepreneurship from the world’s most successful visionaries for the Inner Edison Podcast.

You won’t want to miss Justin’s top five insights.

1. Do What You Like and Do Best

Most successful entrepreneurs have figured out that success in business starts with knowing and owning your “zone of genius”.

Justin states that when he first started BrEpic, he thought he had to be all things for all people. It wasn’t until trimmed back, looked at his skillset, and found his “zone of genius” that his business began to thrive.

He states that top visionaries understand where their true genius lies in adding value to the marketplace and outsource the areas where they are not a genius.

2. Provide a Benefit, Not a Cost

Justin states that 99% of people will hire a company based on cost, and that’s the wrong strategy. True visionaries look at services like Breen’s as an investment, and those are the people he wants to work with.

He states most people who ask what you charge operate from a scarcity mindset. Therefore, they don’t see value in service, but rather a cost.

He says, to find the people who see services as an investment, you need to drastically increase your rates to weed out clients who are only looking at costs, not benefits.

3. It Takes Two Full Years

Breen states that figuring out what works for your business is usually a process of two full years.

While most pragmatic people would look at a business still figuring things out after a year, he says, most successful entrepreneurs understand it takes about two years to figure out your business.

Figuring out your business could be:

  • Finding your “zone of genius”
  • Figuring out your value to your customer
  • Finding the right customers
  • Figuring out what to charge for your service

It is a process that takes time, and visionaries with an abundance mindset, use that knowledge to their advantage. It takes true grit and an abundance mindset to stick it out when others would only see failure.

4. Entrepreneurs Share Four Unique Qualities

In Breen’s experience working with the top 0.1% of entrepreneurs, he has noticed that the top visionaries who earn between six-figures and ten-figures per year have four distinct life experiences.

Most of the worlds top visionaries have come back from at least two if not three or all four of these life experiences:

  1. Bankruptcy or potential bankruptcy
  2. Depression
  3. The highest form of anxiety you can imagine
  4. Traumatic experiences as a child or young adult

He states, what separates them from other entrepreneurs, is that visionaries come back from life experiences that might have sidelined other people. That gives them the grit to persevere in the face of struggle.

5. Family Comes First

Breen states that successful, visionary entrepreneurs understand that all the success in the world doesn’t supplant the value of family. Therefore, family must come first.

He states it like this, “You don’t want to be the richest person in the graveyard.”

The real value of owning your own company is to carve your business around your life and the people you care about, and that’s what Breen does within his business.

Embrace Your Inner Edison By Winning and Learning

One of Breen’s most poignant statements about entrepreneurship is that visionaries don’t see failure. There is only winning and learning. By embracing setbacks as learning experiences, you’ll be embracing your inner Edison.
