If there is one common theme that ties people together, it’s the feeling of pain. Pain can come in many forms. For many people that pain presents itself as a road block in their life.
For some people, their road block may have to do with their weight, while for others it may center around issues with money.
So, let me ask you, how is your relationship — with money?
This was the topic of our latest episode of the Inner Edison Podcast with Ed Parcaut.
We spoke with Dr. Amanda Barrientez, a college professor turned money coach who helps entrepreneurs remove their money blocks and empower their lives.
If you’re looking to make a dramatic breakthrough in your financial life, you won’t want to miss what Amanda had to say.
Read on to discover the three money blocks you may have and don’t even know it.
We all have a program that feeds our money script.
Amanda states that it’s important to know that most of our money issues come from subconscious scripts that we learned before we even started our first jobs.
Oftentimes, our identity with money comes from our upbringing, our social circles, and families. Our formative years are an important aspect of the money script that’s already hardwired in our brains.
Your subconscious scripts run on autopilot, require no thinking, and rule 95% of our mental action.
Despite your subconscious mind’s ability to control a large portion of your day, you still can reprogram yourself to create new scripts. Eventually they will run as easy as the scripts that currently don’t serve you.
Through working with many clients, Amanda has identified three common money blocks that hold entrepreneurs back from their highest potential:
1. Money is Bad
If you’ve ever heard someone say that money is the root of all evil, you have no doubt met someone with the “money is bad” money block.
Many young entrepreneurs who suffer from this block may notice some of the following symptoms:
- A fear of coming across too pushy or too salesy
- Undercharging for services you know cost more
- Constantly justifying your rates if you charge more
- Feeling guilty about earning more than others
Perhaps you’ve noticed a few of these symptoms in yourself. If so, that’s okay. It’s important to understand that awareness is the first step towards removing a money block.
2. Money is Scarce
If you’ve ever heard your mother or father say, “Money doesn’t grow on trees,” chances are you grew up in a home where money was scarce, or at least believed to be so.
Many entrepreneurs who experience the “money is scarce” mentality may notice some of the following symptoms:
- Impostor syndrome
- Taking less for more work
- Continually judging your work against others
- Feeling you need to provide a discount for people to value your service
If some of these sound familiar, don’t freak out! Amanda states that it’s important to understand that growing is a part of any business.
3. Money causes stress.
If you ever identified with the old rap line, “More money, more problems,” you no doubt believe that money causes stress.
Many entrepreneurs who live with the feeling that “money causes stress,” you may notice the following symptoms:
- Feeling like you have to control every aspect of your business
- Overworking themselves rather than delegating or outsourcing
- Saying yes even to jobs you don’t want just to make money
- Spending time on time-sucking tasks that don’t make you money
You might resonate with some of these symptoms. If so, it’s important to understand how your crafting your day around creating invisible hurdles to jump through.
