Starting a podcast can be a rewarding process, albeit it’s a ton of work. One of the most challenging aspects of having a podcast is getting quality guests to come on your show to add value to your listeners.

Alex Sanfilippo created software that uses AI technology to help match podcast hosts with the perfect guest. As a podcaster with over 100 episodes, he knows the struggle is real.

That’s why he developed PodMatch. PodMatch can help new and experienced podcasters build a list of guests to create a brand. His goal is to help podcasters find the perfect guests for their episodes.

On the latest episode of The Inner Edison Podcast with Ed Parcaut, we spoke about the importance of podcasts and creating a brand.

Alex’s Journey Into Entrepreneurism

Alex has always been interested in entrepreneurism. As a pre-teen, he used to sell used golf balls to people in his neighborhood. Then, he became interested in finding ways to make money by providing a service.

His first job out of school was in real estate. He started in 2007 at the peak of the housing bubble. Recognizing the signs, he switched to the aerospace industry. There, he worked for 15 years working for a private company.

He ended up becoming a top executive by working his way up the corporate ladder. As the company went public, he decided to pursue his passion of becoming an entrepreneur. He started a blog and a podcast dedicated to entrepreneurs.

The Importance of Podcasts

Alex has helped thousands of podcasts find reputable guests for their shows. What he’s learned about helping others and creating his podcast is that podcasts can give you access to people that would typically charge hundreds, if not thousands, for their time.

On top of that, he feels that podcasts are a great way to build a brand. It can help establish you as a trusted source in your niche. So Alex hosts his podcast called Creating a Brand, where he talks about all things entrepreneurship.

In his first 100 episodes, he has discovered that people crave honest conversations, and that’s the tangible value of podcasts. They give listeners the chance to know, like, and trust you.

When asked the ideal length for a podcast, he says it’s between 30 to 40 minutes.

Alex’s Inner Edison Moments

One of Alex’s Edison moments was the structure of his podcast business. He originally wanted to create a podcast that also offers a paid online community. Instead, he spent six months learning what wasn’t working.

Meanwhile, the podcast was doing well. Additionally, Alex had a thriving coaching business. What he realized is he didn’t know what the market wanted.

This experience helped him come up with his idea for PodMatch and his new software business called Podcast Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), which is in alpha testing. It’s a software that helps people organize their podcasts.

How to Create a Brand

When starting to create a brand, consider how you can serve. Rather than thinking about your success, focus on how you can help others.

Whether it’s through a podcast, a blog, or some other online business, your focus on becoming a person of value for your listeners.

The way Alex sees it is that it’s essential to come from a perspective of whether it can help one person get value when creating content. If you focus on creating a brand of service, you’ll find your audience.

The importance is to test your ideas and evaluate what works.
